Redefine exceptional human performance

Military simulation software

Over our short history we have achieved a number of unique insights which have led to the development of innovative products.

In 2018 we completed a project in Somalia with the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS). In this project we were tasked with demonstrating how difficult it is to spot IEDs from a moving vehicle in VR. As part of the project we included an after action review function which used gaze tracking information. Users were told how many devices they successfully identified, how many they missed and of the devices they missed, how they successfully identified. This information was presented as part of an after action review. By showing the participants that they looked directly at devices they missed, yet didn’t identify, we were able to provide a strong learning point.

We took this insight - VR is a good way of generating insights from user performance and raised some seed investment to develop HEAT. HEAT is a data capture, storage, analysis and display tool for training data captured in VR. We developed an MVP of this product and deployed in a VR training experience with IAG Cargo.

We subsequently applied for and were successful in achieving DASA funding to combine HEAT with off the shelf VR flight simulation software in order to create a system capable of measuring Airmanship in RAF pilots. Phase one of this project was completed in July 2021. Phase 2 involved deploying the system and actually capturing data. To date we have captured almost 1 billion data points from 39 active duty RAF personnel. In phase 3 we will analyse this data and define what metrics point towards airmanship. We are currently working with BAE Systems to commercialise the outcomes.

In May 2021 we were successful in winning a contract in partnership with KONGSBERG Defence and Aerospace to supply a Virtual Reality Simulator to the Irish Defence Forces for their RWS Protector system. This simulator allowed us to develop ReACT - A Repurposable Armour Crew Trainer that will form a platform on which to build armour crew simulators for a variety of vehicle types and Weapons systems.

Outside of defence, we have also recently taken on funding to build an off-the-shelf simulator for the offshore wind industry. This industry requires 500,000 new workers by 2030 in order to meet its growth targets and current training systems cannot meet this demand. We are not only engaging in product innovation, but also business model innovation on this project as we seek to find ways to make simulation affordable to that industry through Simulation as a Service.
