THE MOWAG EXPERIENCE PUTS YOU RIGHT AT THE CENTRE OF A PEACE-KEEPING MISSION

Merging 360-degree footage from a Defence Forces training exercise with a highly detailed and true to scale MOWAG vehicle, the Defence Forces VR Experience puts you in the middle of a peacekeeping mission where you need to be alert at all times. Can you identify the threat and defend your vehicle from the hostiles operating in the area?

The Irish Army carry out a multitude of conventional military roles at home as well as multinational  peace support and humanitarian relief operations as part of United Nations mandates. For this project the Army required a VR experience that put people into the heart of the action so they could understand and feel what it is like to be on a peacekeeping operation.

CHALLENGE

The challenge for us was to create an exciting but non-traditional experience that allowed civilians to understand what it would be like as a crew member in one of the army’s MOWAG vehicles.
 
A high quality experience was also key to the army’s requirements to engage with the public, educate them on what peace keeping involves and for the simulation to support recruitment campaigns.  The solution had to be highly accessible and easy to deploy.

ENGAGE AND EDUCATE.

Our solution combined 360 degree video footage with highly accurate 3D modelling, visual effects and fully scripted audio to deliver an experience that puts you right at the centre of a peacekeeping mission.

RESULT

The project successfully delivered an immersive and enjoyable experience. The simulation is used regularly at Irish army promotional and recruitment events.

“Since working with VRAI to create a virtual tour of our Ascentis warehouse, 94% of users said they have learned something new (compared to the physical tour) and their understanding of the operation has increased from an average of 5/10, to 8/10. Moreover, we have managed to reduce tour timings from 90 minutes to 15 minutes. The experience has also inspired colleagues to explore how virtual reality could be used in other parts of our business.”
